On March 27, 2006 the UN General Assembly has approved Tunis Commitment and Tunis Agenda for the Information Society which were adopted on the Tunis Phase of the World Summit on the Information Society in November, 2005. Members of the Assembly also declared 17 May of each year as World Information Society Day. In the resolution unanimously adopted on this question the General Assembly reminded on the Declaration of Principles and Action Plan adopted on the Geneva Phase of the Summit in December, 2003.
Members of the General Assembly have decided to make in 2015 a review of progress of fulfillment of Geneva and Tunis agreements. General Assembly proposed the Secretary General to hold the meeting of the Internet Governance Forum for discussing the questions of the policy of global network development. This meeting will take place from October 30 to November 2, 2006 in Athens.
General Assembly welcomed the creation the Digital Solidarity Fund in Geneva. This Fund will be a free-will financing mechanism of “transforming “digital gap” into digital possibilities for developing countries”.
