Matters of creation of regional ecological network in Polesie discussed at the meeting of Belarusian, Polish and Ukrainian representatives on 29-30 November in Warsaw. Specialists of state bodies, national commissions for UNESCO, scientists and representatives of the UNESCO and other international organizations took part in the meeting.
The delegation of our country consisted of Mr. Valentin Malishevsky, deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Mr. Vladimir Schastny, chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO, Mr. Mikhail Mikiforov, director of the zoology institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and Ms. Natallia Rybyanets, executive director of the National Committee of the UNESCO Program “Man and Biosphere”.
One of the questions included into agenda was the creation of transboundary biosphere reservation “The Western Polesie”. In their reports the Belarusian delegates have stressed that the attempts in this direction are the part of the international strategy of preservation and use of water resources and bio diversity in the Polessye. The attempts are taken in the framework of UNESCO project “Creation of the Transboundary Biosphere Eastern European Model of Regional Ecological Network “Polesie”: Poland-Ukraine-Belarus" and the plan of action for their integration into the Pan-European ecological network.
