The UNESCO Chair on Energy Conservation and Renewable Energies was established in 1996 at the Belarusian National Technical University with UNESCO assistance for the solution of the informational and educational problems of the energy conservation in the Republic of Belarus.

In 1997 the new Course "Bases of the Energy Conservation" was introduced in educational plans of all specialties at the Belarusian National Technical University. This course is taught by the Chairs staff. Since 1997 the Chairs has been preparing students on the specialty Energy Effective Technologies and Management of Energetics. In 2004 the the new specialty “Packing Industry” was introduced.
