UNESCO Chair in Culture of Peace and Democracy was created in 1997 at the National Institute of Higher Education and Humanitarian Education under initiative of its rector, professor V. A. Gaisenka, who nowadays is an Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in Austria, permanent representative in international organizations in Vienna.
In 2001 the chair was headed by I.I. Hancheryonok, professor.
Today the chair is a leading academic structure recognized in the republic and abroad and realizing the ideals of culture of peace through internationalization of higher education and efficient educational management.
